As Valentine's Day transitions into Ash Wednesday, Covington, Kentucky, is gearing up for a weekend filled with various activities. Residents and visitors can look forward to events that range from educational talks on wildflowers to community service through plogging and the lively Mardi Gras parade.

Patrick Applegarth, a botanist and biologist, will lead a Wildflower Talk at the Behringer-Crawford Museum Education Center. This discussion will focus on native ephemeral plants and wildflowers in the region, their importance to pollinators, and how individuals can cultivate these plants in their gardens.

The third annual Plogging Across the Bluegrass event takes place this Saturday. Organized in collaboration with Keep Kentucky Beautiful and West Sixth Brewery, participants are invited to gather at West Sixth Brewery Covington Haus. They will have the opportunity to engage in physical activity while contributing to community cleanliness by picking up litter along one of three designated routes. Each route is expected to take approximately 90 minutes. Afterward, participants can enjoy drinks and a complimentary lunch at Smoke Justis.

Saturday also marks the MainStrasse Village Mardi Gras Parade organized by Up Over Bar. The parade features over 60 floats traveling from Main & Ninth streets down to Main & Fifth streets. Following the parade is the MainStrasse Pub Crawl.

Live music performances are scheduled throughout the weekend at various venues such as Molly Malone’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, Madison Live, The Village Theater, Galaxie, Juniper’s, and Madison Theater.

Additional events include National Chili Day celebrations at Kenton County Public Library tonight and several activities on Saturday like the Covington Farmers Market at Braxton Brewing Co., MainStrasse Village Food & Culture Tour, and a workshop on creating 3D printed Celtic knot earrings and pendants at Kenton County Public Library.
