Volunteers in Covington, Kentucky, are set to participate in the third-annual "Plogging Across the Bluegrass" event this Saturday. The initiative combines exercise with community service as participants pick up litter while jogging or walking through various neighborhoods.

Sheila Fields, manager of the City’s Solid Waste & Recycling Division, explained that the event's name is a blend of the Swedish term “plocka upp,” meaning “to pick up,” and the English word “jogging.” She noted that it aims to foster camaraderie and community spirit.

Participants are invited to gather at 10 a.m. at West Sixth Covington Haus brewery, located at 100 West Sixth St., where they can choose from three routes. Each route is approximately two miles long and expected to take about an hour and a half to complete. Afterward, volunteers can return to West Sixth for drinks and enjoy a complimentary lunch provided by Smoke Justis restaurant.

The event is organized by the City in collaboration with Keep Covington Beautiful, a program operated by The Center for Great Neighborhoods.
