Upcoming high school graduates in Covington, Kentucky, have an opportunity to secure a $500 college scholarship from the local police union. The deadline for applications is July 1. The Covington FOP Lodge #1 Fallen Officer Scholarship is open to 2025 high school graduates who plan to attend college.

"The FOP is proud to continue the tradition of helping to support the community with this scholarship as we invest in the future of Covington through encouraging the development of tomorrow’s leaders," said Covington Police Officer Douglas Ullrich. "We look forward to learning about some of the truly exceptional youth in Covington as we go through their applications."

To qualify for the scholarship, students need to complete an application and submit an essay titled "What does Covington mean to me?" The essay must be between 400 and 700 words and should be original and unpublished. Applicants must reside in Covington, have attended school there, or be dependents of FOP or FOPA members.

Applications can be emailed to CovingtonFOPScholarship@gmail.com or mailed to FOP Scholarship at 516 E. 18th St., Covington, KY 41014. Interested applicants can also use this email address for application requests or inquiries. The scholarship is competitive, with typically two awards given annually.
