Covington gears up for Memorial Day weekend with parades, fishing derby, and festivities

COVINGTON, Ky. – As the Memorial Day weekend approaches, Covington prepares for a series of events that blend celebration with remembrance. The holiday is dedicated to honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.

In Covington, the annual Memorial Day Parade and various ceremonies will take place on Monday, including a weekend-long event at The Roost Latonia.

For those seeking family-friendly activities, several options are available. Creative House of Art & Design (CHAD) hosts its Full Moon Fest tonight, featuring tarot readings and themed cocktails inspired by May's Full Flower Moon in Sagittarius.

The Roost Latonia offers "Color Us Red, White & Blue" on Friday and Saturday. Participants can engage in arts and crafts projects such as creating canvas hearts for military families and crafting cemetery bouquets. Attendees will also receive a free flag with any purchase.

On Saturday, Covington Parks and Recreation will hold its annual Youth Fishing Derby at Prisoners Lake in Devou Park for children aged 5 to 15. Prizes will be awarded for the longest, shortest, heaviest, and most caught fish.

The Kenton County Public Library will conduct a Patriotic Luminaries workshop on Saturday. Participants can create patriotic displays using frosted tumblers and fairy lights.

Frosthaus celebrates its third anniversary with a block party on Saturday, featuring games like giant Jenga and Connect Four, live music, prizes, and drink deals.

Braxton Brewing Company invites residents to Salsa Sunday on their rooftop this weekend. An instructor from KamaSalsa Latin Dancing will offer lessons to participants of all ages.

- Tonight: The Missy Werner Band at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub & Restaurant; Alex Poteet at Smoke Justis; Angie Coyle Quartet at Juniper’s.

- Friday: Corey Tucker at Smoke Justis; Fast Travel at Wunderbar; Tab Benoit at Madison Theater; Pangeaux de Mayo at The Rooftop at Madison Theater; Tall Tall Trees on Tour 2024 at Madison Live.

- Saturday: Aqua Meringue at Arnold’s Pub; Kenny Cowden at Smoke Justis; Loudmouth with Toon Town at Madison Live; Cincy Silent Disco Pajama Party at Madison Theater; The Gimlets at Juniper’s.

- Sunday: Laura Jane Grace at Madison Theater; Cheaper Than Therapy at The Rooftop at The Madison.

Other events include West Side Brewing Pint Night today at Crafts & Vines, Covington Farmers Market on Saturday morning, MainStrasse Village Food and Culture Tour on Saturday afternoon, Fluttering Butterfly Dotting Class also on Saturday afternoon at Purple Paisley Local Artisan Gallery, and Kitty Yoga with Damon on Sunday morning at Purrfect Day Cat Café.
