COVINGTON, Ky. – Covington's Fire Department is actively seeking information from residents and businesses to enhance their emergency response capabilities. The initiative, known as Covington Community Connect, aims to gather valuable details about homes and establishments to ensure firefighters can respond effectively, quickly, and safely in times of crisis.

Assistant Fire Chief of Prevention and Education, Joe Vance, emphasized the importance of community involvement in emergency preparedness, stating, “Community Connect empowers residents and business owners to take a proactive approach in an emergency and have a voice in assisting our response.”

The online data bank allows individuals to provide pertinent information about their households or businesses, enabling firefighters to have a clearer understanding of the unique aspects of each property. Details such as the number of occupants, contact information, health challenges, language barriers, and the presence of pets or hazardous materials can all be included in the database.

Vance highlighted the benefits of Community Connect in streamlining and expanding the Fire Department's capabilities, ultimately leading to more informed and efficient responses to emergencies. The program also ensures the security and privacy of the provided information, with access restricted to authorized personnel.

In addition to enhancing emergency response, the initiative serves as an outward-facing feature of the First Due management system utilized by Covington's Fire Department. This comprehensive system aids in emergency planning, scheduling, data analysis, and maintenance, further optimizing firefighting operations.

As part of the rollout of Covington Community Connect, fire officials have been introducing the program to businesses and distributing informational materials at local events. The integration of Enhanced 911 technology and CAD software further enhances the department's ability to gather and utilize critical information for improved emergency management.

Vance expressed the department's enthusiasm for extending the benefits of Community Connect to the public, enabling residents and business owners to leverage the advanced capabilities of the First Due system. By fostering collaboration between the community and firefighters, Covington aims to strengthen its emergency response infrastructure and better serve its residents in times of need.
