Covington's Historic Preservation Office is currently accepting nominations for the Covington Preservation Excellence Awards until April 1. The awards, which honor projects and individuals who have contributed to the restoration and preservation of the city's historic buildings, were announced by Covington’s Historic Preservation Specialist Kaitlin Bryan.
Bryan expressed the importance of acknowledging the efforts made in Covington to preserve historic buildings, stating, "We want the chance to acknowledge the people and efforts being made around town to preserve our beloved historic buildings." The deadline for nominations is set for 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 1.
The awards, which recognize preservation projects completed in 2023, will be selected by the City’s Economic Development staff. Nominations can be submitted through the Covington Preservation Excellence Award Program webpage or emailed to kaitlin.bryan@covingtonky.gov.
The awards will be presented in five categories, including Exterior Restoration-Residential, Exterior Restoration-Mixed Use/Commercial, Adaptive Re-use Residential, Adaptive Re-use Mixed-Use/Commercial, and Interior Excellence. Each category aims to acknowledge and celebrate exceptional efforts in preserving historic buildings in Covington.
The award ceremony is expected to take place in May during National Economic Week, with event details to be announced. Last year, the awards were presented during a joint outdoor event described as "a mashup of serious purpose and Covington craziness."
The Covington Preservation Excellence Awards serve as a platform to celebrate the commitment and dedication of individuals and organizations towards maintaining the historical integrity of Covington's architecture and heritage.
