Covington, Kentucky has seen a significant rise in educational attainment among its residents over the past few years. According to the American Community Survey, the percentage of Covington residents aged 25 and older with at least an associate’s degree increased from 22 percent in 2009 to 32 percent in 2023.

A notable trend within this data is the substantial increase in the number of women holding doctoral degrees. Between 2021 and 2023, this figure rose from 59 to 172, marking a remarkable 191 percent increase. This statistic excludes women who have earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.

City officials view this development as both an indicator of Covington's growing sophistication and a catalyst for further economic growth. "We believe that fact is both a sign of Covington’s increasing sophistication … AND an impetus for further economic growth and a higher quality of life," stated city representatives.

The link between an educated workforce and economic benefits is well-documented. A highly skilled population can attract businesses and create jobs, leading to higher household incomes and increased tax revenues. These funds can then be reinvested into local services and infrastructure, enhancing community living standards.
