With election season underway, the City of Covington is reminding candidates and supporters that political signs should not be placed on public property. This rule also applies to ballot initiatives.

The areas where signs are prohibited include parks, medians, promenades, tree wells, utility poles, street signs, and grass strips between sidewalks and streets. City staff have the authority to remove any political signs in these locations, similar to how they handle unauthorized business or organizational signage.

Additionally, signs are not allowed in state-maintained rights of way along routes managed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. On private property, political signs can only be placed with the owner's permission. If permission is not granted, the property owner may remove the sign.
