The City of Florence Youth in Government Evening Program is set to take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Florence Government Center. The event aims to provide local youth with a unique opportunity to engage with various city departments and gain valuable insights into the inner workings of the community.
According to Melissa Kramer, City Clerk/Public Relations Administrator, attendees will have the chance to interact with different city departments and learn about their roles in the community. Kramer stated, "This engaging event will feature interactive sessions with various city departments, showcasing the inner workings of our community."
The program, which will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., is open to all ages and free of charge. Participants can look forward to learning about law enforcement practices from the police department, with demonstrations by a K9 officer. The event will also highlight the efforts of the Fire/EMS department, offering a glimpse into the crucial work they do to ensure community safety. Additionally, attendees will gain insights into the functions of the Public Services Department, understanding how local government services contribute to resident well-being.
One of the unique aspects of the program is the opportunity for attendees to witness a Florence City Council meeting in Council Chambers after the event. This firsthand experience of local governance in action is designed to inspire and empower the leaders of tomorrow.
