Covington homeowners will have more time to pay the annual fee for curbside collection of trash and recycling this year as the trash collection portion of the bill is being delayed. Finance Director Steve Webb reassured residents that, "This delay will have virtually no impact on residents."
In past years, the City of Covington included the trash collection fee on the same bill as the annual stormwater fee, which was recently mailed to residents. However, this year, the delay in sending out the trash collection portion of the bill is to allow the Covington Board of Commissioners to further examine this critical public service and its funding.
Meanwhile, the stormwater fee for non-commercial property owners in Covington, set at $54.48 for most homeowners, remains due by March 31, as it is annually. Commercial property owners, on the other hand, receive quarterly bills.
Residents are reminded that bills, including the stormwater fee, can be viewed and paid online at the Annual Property Fees website. To access the bill, users need to click on "Search," then "Property Tax," and select the search tool from the drop-down menu.
The annual fee for residential property owners for weekly curbside collection of solid waste (trash) and recycling will be sent out at a later date this year. The fee for homeowners during the 2023 calendar year stood at $152.52, a rate that has remained consistent for almost a decade.
Overall, the delay in the trash collection bill issuance is intended to provide the Covington Board of Commissioners with additional time to assess the service and its financial implications, while ensuring that residents can manage their payments effectively.
