The Covington Snow & Ice Team is fully prepared for the expected storm that is set to hit the city tonight. With the forecast calling for a little more than an inch of snow, the team has taken all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the roads.

Fleet Division Supervisor Steve Hedger, also known as the "Snow Commander" for this storm, expressed confidence in the team's readiness. He stated, "The forecast has been all over the place this week, but right now it's calling for a little more than an inch of snow, so that's what we're preparing for. But we'll adapt to whatever happens."

Earlier in the week, the Public Works crews installed salt spinners on the trucks and made final calibrations. Problem areas, such as bridges and hills, were pre-treated with liquid brine to prevent ice formation. A backhoe was also used to dump road salt into the beds of the trucks that will be servicing the roads during the storm.

Hedger mentioned that the first half of the City's Snow & Ice Team, consisting of 18 employees, will be called in initially, while the other half remains on call. The team will run 16 separate routes, including a specific route for the main thoroughfares north of 20th Street to ensure more frequent treatment.

"Our response is good, but we're always looking to improve it," Hedger stated. "We're ready."
