Covington's police union, FOP Lodge #1, is offering a $500 college scholarship to graduating high school seniors. The scholarship, known as the Covington FOP Lodge #1 Fallen Officer Scholarship, is open to 2024 high school graduates who are planning to attend college. The deadline for applications is July 1.
Officer Douglas Ullrich of the Covington Police expressed the pride of the FOP in continuing the tradition of supporting the community through this scholarship. He stated, "We look forward to learning about some of the truly exceptional youth in Covington as we go through their applications."
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must complete an application and write an essay answering the question, "What does Covington mean to me?" The essay should be between 400 and 700 words and must be original and previously unpublished. Applicants must either be a resident of Covington, have attended school in Covington, or be the dependent of an FOP or FOPA member.
Applications can be emailed to CovingtonFOPScholarship@gmail.com or mailed to FOP Scholarship, 516 E. 18th St., Covington, KY 41014. Interested students can also use this email to request an application or ask any questions they may have.
