Morris and Eriksson Named Patriots Athletes of the Week

Coming off a strong week in Patriot athletics that saw numerous strong performances, jumper and swimmer Gabriel Eriksson were selected as the Pepsi Athletes of the Week, announced by the athletic department Monday.

Jullia Morris earned athlete of the week honors after achieving an "A" cut in the triple jump.  

The graduate student made a leap of 11.45m on her third jump to finish seventh at the UK Rod McCravy Memorial Meet.  

Morris was the top NAIA finisher in the event as she clipped the NAIA "A" standard of 11.40m to qualify for nationals for the second straight year.  

She had two jumps that surpassed the standard as she went 11.43m in her final jump as well.  

Morris also competed on the track going 8.36 in the 60m dash and was part of Cumberlands 4x400 relay, which crossed the line in 4:08.63.

Gabriel Eriksson earned athlete of the week honors after achieving multiple national cuts in the dual meet against Asbury.  

The freshman opened the meet by pulling away from the field to win the 200 free with a time of 1:46.89.  

That time give Erikkson a five second win and clipped the provisional cut by over a second.  

The Joenkoeping, Sweden native followed that up placing first in the 400 IM.  

He touched the wall in 4:17.66, which clipped the provisional cut by six seconds.  

Eriksson closed out the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 breast as he clocked a time of 2:18.81.
