Gateway Community & Technical College's EMS Education Program and St. Elizabeth Healthcare have announced a partnership with the City of Florence Fire/EMS Department to launch a satellite Paramedic Program cohort at Florence Fire/EMS starting this summer.
St. Elizabeth Healthcare, operating six facilities and over 172 primary care and specialty practices in Northern Kentucky, Southeastern Indiana, and Greater Cincinnati, is sponsoring the initiative. "The program expansion underscores the significance of regional partnerships between healthcare entities, community colleges, and local fire/EMS agencies," the press release stated.
Florence Fire/EMS covers approximately twenty square miles with a population of 55,781 in Boone County. The department sought this collaboration to address the shortage of paramedics needed in the Greater Cincinnati Area. The new program aims to enhance Gateway's Paramedic Education Department's capacity while meeting local hiring needs.
Founded in 2001, Gateway serves over 6,000 students as Northern Kentucky’s only public two-year comprehensive community college. It was recognized by the Aspen Institute as one of the top community colleges in the U.S last year.
