 Men’s Basketball gets back to winning ways with blowout win over Green Bay

The Northern Kentucky men's basketball program returned to its winning ways with a 74-53 blowout victory over Green Bay in a Horizon League contest inside the Resch Center on Saturday night.

 

With the win, and some help from Wright State (who knocked off Milwaukee), NKU returns to the top of the Horizon and is tied for first overall with Milwaukee and Youngstown State at 6-2 in conference play.

 

THE BASICS

FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 74, Green Bay – 53

LOCATION: Resch Center – Green Bay, Wis.

RECORDS: NKU 11-8 (6-2 HL), GB 2-17 (1-7 HL)

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Marques Warrick paced the offensive attack with 21 points in just 27 minutes of play as the standout guard posted a 6-of-17 night from the field. He added two rebounds, two steals and an assist. With the scoring outburst, Warrick moved into 18th all-time in scoring in school history as he passed Dan Fleming with his now 1,293 career points. The Lexington, Kentucky native sits just 17 points back of Greg Ohelia (1,310 career points) for 17th-best in program history. With his six made field goals, Warrick also moved passed Paul Cluxton for 17th in school history with 461 career makes and counting.

- Trevon Faulkner had another big day, this time from the starting lineup, as he finished with nine points, four boards and an assist. Faulkner moved into 11th all-time in school history in scoring as he now has 1,500 career points. He sits just two points back of Craig Conley (1,502 career points) for 10th all-time in scoring in NKU history.

- Chris Brandon continued to be a force on the glass as he picked up 16 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Brandon has now gone for 11-plus rebounds in two straight games and has posted five such contests so far this season.

- Sam Vinson made it three Norse in double-figures with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Vinson has posted two or more steals in two straight contests and 12 times overall so far this season. He sits in the top-10 nationally in steals per game.

- Xavier Rhodes chipped in eight points and a game-high four assists to go with zero turnovers on the evening.

- The Norse finished with 28 points off the bench, 21 points off turnovers, and 16 fast break and second chance points.

- NKU's 12-of-27 mark from beyond the arc (44.4 percent) was the third-best percentage posted by the Norse from three-point land in a game so far this year.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Norse started off the game hot and shot 46.43 percent from the field and 46.16 from three in the opening half to take a 39-25 lead after 20 minutes of play.

- It was all NKU in the second half as well, as the Norse withstood a couple Green Bay runs to close out the 19-point victory, 74-28.
