Thomas Massie, a current U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 4th district since 2012, has been active in legislative initiatives related to U.S. foreign policy and military engagement. Recently, he announced a significant legislative action via his social media platform.
On June 17, 2025, Massie tweeted, “I just introduced an Iran War Powers Resolution with @RepRoKhanna to prohibit U.S. involvement in the Israel-Iran war.” He emphasized the constitutional necessity for Congress to decide on such matters: “This is not our war. Even if it were, Congress must decide such matters according to our Constitution.”
In another post made shortly after on the same day, Massie expressed gratitude towards his colleagues for their support of the resolution. He wrote, “Thank you to the original cosponsors of this War Powers Resolution: @repdonbeyer, @repcasar, @RepAOC,” and several others who joined as original cosponsors.
By June 18, Massie provided an update on the growing support for their initiative. In a subsequent tweet, he stated that “The war powers resolution that Ro Khanna and I introduced today to prevent the United States from entering the war between Israel and Iran now has 27 cosponsors.”
Thomas Massie’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), obtained in 1993. His career in public service began prior to his congressional role when he served in the Kentucky House of Representatives and as Lewis County Judge Executive.
