Thomas Massie, a U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 4th district since 2012, recently expressed his views on the Big Beautiful Bill and its implications through a series of tweets. Massie, who succeeded Geoff Davis in Congress and has an educational background from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, highlighted concerns regarding fiscal assessments and local governance related to artificial intelligence infrastructure.

On June 5, 2025, Massie tweeted about Speaker Johnson’s dissatisfaction with the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), stating that “@SpeakerJohnson complains CBO is scoring the deficit impact of the Big Beautiful Bill wrong.” He reminded that “CBO stands for Congressional Budget Office!” and mentioned that he had informed the Speaker that Congress could dismiss the director if necessary.

Later that day, Massie commented on a provision within the Big Beautiful Bill concerning artificial intelligence regulation. He noted that “The Big Beautiful Bill contains a provision banning state & local governments from regulating AI.” According to him, this would facilitate corporations in obtaining zoning variances for building AI data centers near residential areas.

In another tweet on June 5, 2025, Massie clarified his stance by stating “This isn’t a conspiracy theory; this was a recent issue in my Congressional district.” He emphasized that such matters were previously resolved locally due to officials having leverage but expressed concern that the bill undermines local communities’ decision-making power regarding AI data center locations.
