Thomas Massie, U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 4th district since 2012, has recently raised concerns about long-term mortgages and transparency regarding the FBI’s handling of information related to Ray Epps in a series of posts on his social media account.

On November 9, 2025, Massie questioned the implications of extended mortgage terms by posting: “How is ‘here, enjoy this 50 year mortgage’ different from ‘you will own nothing and you will like it'”.

Later that day, he elaborated on the financial risks associated with such loans: “After paying on a home for 5 years, if the rate is 7% on a 50 yr mortgage, you will have paid only 1.3% of the principal. If you needed a 50 year loan, you probably didn’t put much down at closing. Seems like a recipe for default & no ability to move for better jobs or school.”

In another post dated November 9, Massie addressed government transparency issues: “I sent a letter to the FBI director one month ago requesting unreleased information on Ray Epps.”

Massie has served in Congress since replacing Geoff Davis in 2012 and previously held roles in state government. He was born in Huntington, West Virginia in 1971 and currently resides in Garrison. Massie graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1993.
