Thomas Massie, a libertarian-leaning lawmaker representing Kentucky’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, raised questions on social media regarding government requirements and Department of Justice decisions.
On January 9, 2026, Massie posted: “Why do my colleagues want to make “E-verify” mandatory for employment and “real-ID” mandatory for travel, but they won’t make either a requirement for welfare? “ He followed this with another post at 04:12 UTC stating: “Answer: both are just tools to give the government more control over citizens.”
Later that day, Massie questioned the actions of the Department of Justice under Attorney General Pam Bondi in relation to legal immunity for Bayer, a German company. At 13:45 UTC he wrote: ““Representative Thomas Massie, a libertarian-leaning lawmaker from Kentucky, asked Thursday, on social media, Why has the Department of Justice, under Attorney General Pam Bondi, sided with the German company Bayer?” [to give them immunity from lawsuits]
