Thomas Massie, U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 4th district since 2012, has raised renewed questions regarding the investigation into the January 6 pipe bombs and the FBI’s handling of the case.
On December 5, 2025, Massie posted on his X account: “ICYMI, in January, @RepLoudermilk and I released our joint report on the implausibility of the FBI’s inability to identify anyone responsible for the J6 pipe bombs. I still believe multiple people were involved in the plot and subsequent cover-up.” The statement refers to a joint report he co-authored with Rep. Barry Loudermilk earlier in the year.
Later that day, Massie shared another post referencing remarks made at the Capitol: “My comments yesterday at the Capitol: https://t.co/9Uuj4ivv9R”.
In a third post on December 5, Massie questioned technical aspects of the pipe bomb devices allegedly used during January 6 events: “Can a pipe bomb with a 60 minute kitchen timer purchased from Walmart detonate 16 hours after it’s activated?”
Massie’s posts follow ongoing public scrutiny over law enforcement’s response to explosive devices found near party headquarters during the events of January 6, 2021. Congressional Republicans have repeatedly called for greater transparency in investigations related to that day.
A member of Congress since replacing Geoff Davis in 2012, Massie previously served as Lewis County Judge Executive and in Kentucky’s House of Representatives. He was born in Huntington, West Virginia in 1971 and is an alumnus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned his BS degree in 1993.
