Thomas Massie, U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 4th district since 2012, addressed his recent political challenges and congressional spending practices in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between August 21 and August 22, 2025.
On August 21, Massie questioned the motivations behind attacks from wealthy opponents: “Ask yourself: why have these three billionaires spent over $2 million dollars attacking me over the past 6 weeks. Is it because I’m 1 of 435 votes? No, it’s because I have been exposing the swamp and I will continue to do so as long as I’m in office.”
The following day, Massie explained the likely passage of a Continuing Resolution (CR) by Congress before September 30 and described its implications: “Congress will likely pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) by Sept 30, but what is a CR ? A CR is a copy of last year’s omnibus spending bill. But since Congress passed a CR last year (FY25), this year’s CR (FY26) is a copy of the omnibus (FY24) of Biden’s last year. I’ll vote no.”
In another post made on August 22, Massie critiqued a conservative fiscal approach related to government spending: “There’s a conservative school of thought that says if we would just keep passing CR’s, we’d spend the same dollars each year, so gov’t spending would effectively go down due to inflation. The problem with that theory is Congress inserted FY26 spending increases in the BBB.”
Massie has served in Congress since succeeding Geoff Davis in 2012 and previously held positions in Kentucky state government. Born in Huntington, West Virginia in 1971, he currently resides in Garrison and holds an undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
