Thomas Massie, a U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 4th district since 2012, published several statements on his X (formerly Twitter) account on September 16, 2025, addressing congressional procedures and civil liberties.
In his first post at 12:37 UTC, Massie commented on the position of House Speaker Mike Johnson regarding continuing resolutions (CRs), stating: “.@SpeakerJohnson wants to do another short term CR by September 30th. In his own words, here’s how his view of CR’s has “evolved” during his speakership: https://t.co/2iCPwJ5oiJ”.
Later that day at 13:39 UTC, Massie addressed concerns about free speech and terminology used in public discourse. He wrote: ““Hate speech” is a term used by those in power to describe thoughts they don’t want spoken. It’s antithetical to the First Amendment. https://t.co/KjIihyt85t”.
In a subsequent post at 20:32 UTC, Massie raised questions about proposed legislation affecting juvenile prosecution in Washington D.C., as well as referencing ongoing controversies related to Jeffrey Epstein. He stated: “Tonight, Congress will vote to lower the age to prosecute minors as adults from 16 down to 14 in DC. Let me get this straight:
Congress wants to prosecute 14 yr. olds as adults, but they don’t want to prosecute adults who sexually abuse 14 year olds?
Release the Epstein files.”
Massie has been serving in Congress since replacing Geoff Davis in 2012 and previously held positions in the Kentucky House of Representatives and as Lewis County Judge Executive. Born in Huntington, West Virginia in 1971 and currently residing in Garrison, Massie graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a BS degree in 1993.
