Thomas Massie, U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 4th district since 2012, has announced that his NICS Data Reporting Act will be brought to a vote in the House of Representatives. The bill seeks to address false denials in the federal gun background check system and their impact on law-abiding minorities.
On May 11, 2026, Massie posted: “Tomorrow the House will bring my NICS reporting bill for a vote! My bill aims to reduce the number of false denials created by the gun background check system. NICS disproportionately cheats law abiding minorities out of their right to keep & bear arms.”
Later that day, he addressed another issue related to government transparency: “Here I explain why our government refuses to investigate Epstein’s clients and co-conspirators.”
On May 12, Massie provided an update on his legislative efforts: “Majority Leader @SteveScalise announced that the House will vote on my NICS Data Reporting Act later today. The data gathered from the FBI will show there are thousands of false denials for gun purchases every year. These denials disproportionately affect racial minorities.”
Thomas Massie has represented Kentucky’s 4th District in Congress since replacing Geoff Davis in 2012 and previously served as Lewis County Judge Executive and as a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. Born in Huntington, West Virginia in 1971, Massie is currently 52 years old and resides in Garrison. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), earned in 1993.
