U.S. Congressman Thomas Massie, representing Kentucky’s 4th district, has used his social media platform to clarify his positions on government spending measures and federal involvement in private companies.

On August 22, 2025, Massie addressed recent claims regarding his voting record: “It’s been falsely stated I voted for a Republican CR that passed during Biden’s administration. Wrong.

I voted for a deal, coupled with a debt ceiling increase, that said if we keep doing CR’s, then the next CR cuts all spending 1% (the Massie plan).

Johnson killed that deal.”

The following day, Massie expressed concerns about government ownership stakes in private businesses: “Our government should not have ownership in private companies. There are so many specific problems with an arrangement like this, but fundamentally, this is not who we are as a country.” Later the same day he added: “The CHIPS Act did not authorize the U.S. government to acquire stock in private corporations.”

Thomas Massie has served as a member of Congress since 2012 after succeeding Geoff Davis and previously held roles in the Kentucky House of Representatives and as Lewis County Judge Executive. He was born in Huntington, West Virginia in 1971 and resides in Garrison. Massie holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
