Bre Gaffney, Finance Director | City of Covington
Covington, Kentucky has appointed Bre Gaffney as its new Finance Director. Bringing over a decade of federal financial management experience to the role, Gaffney has previously held positions at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. Her experience spans managing complex budgets, leading major program transitions, and spearheading strategic initiatives.
Gaffney commented on her extensive background in public service, expressing enthusiasm for her new role. "I’ve spent more than a decade working in public service, including roles at both the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, DC," she stated.
Mayor Ron Washington of Covington highlighted the potential impact of Gaffney’s appointment. "Bre Gaffney brings a wealth of experience that will help protect and strengthen the City’s financial position," he remarked. "Her leadership promises to bring fresh ideas and innovation to our finance department, and I look forward to the positive impact she will undoubtedly make."
Gaffney expressed her eagerness to collaborate with Covington’s finance team. "Covington has a unique mix of history, creativity, and momentum, and I’m looking forward to helping support its growth by strengthening its financial operations," she said. "I’m especially excited to dig into the financial side of all the exciting projects currently underway, from the new City Hall to the revitalization of Covington’s Central Riverfront District and beyond."
In her previous roles, Gaffney established a division focused on appropriations and allocations to enhance budget transparency and oversight. She managed the formulation of a $7.7 billion budget, ensuring adherence to federal guidelines, and led communication initiatives to build transparency and trust with stakeholders.
Gaffney and her family have recently moved to Cincinnati, looking forward to a new chapter closer to family. "We look forward to building a life in a community where our four-year-old son Dax can grow up feeling grounded, supported, and part of something special," Gaffney stated. "We’re excited to be in this region and feel lucky to call it home."
