Covington, Kentucky, is set to begin its annual street cleaning initiative, starting on April 1, as announced by the city's Public Works Department. This program will target residential streets, and residents are reminded to clear their vehicles to facilitate the process.
Troy McCain, the supervisor of Public Works' General Maintenance Division, emphasized the significance of this task by stating, "Sweeping streets regularly is more than just a matter of making the streets presentable, it’s also a sanitation issue and a drainage issue." He added, "Keeping curb lines, gutters, and streets clean of debris helps our infrastructure last longer and function better. But we can’t do it if parked cars are in the way."
The cleaning will continue through May 23, with each street scheduled for a two-day sweeping process, handling one side per day. Parking restrictions will be enforced on the designated side for each day, and vehicles parked during these times risk receiving a ticket.
Residents are encouraged to use online resources to check the schedule specific to their address. They will receive two dates, detailing when each side of the street will be cleaned. Additionally, signs will be posted in affected residential areas a day in advance as reminders. In commercial districts, streets are cleaned weekly, with permanent signage already in place.
McCain stated that the street sweeper operates between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. but usually concludes before lunchtime. He also advised residents to verify their street’s cleaning dates well in advance, especially if they plan to be away during the two months of operation.
