Florence Mourns the Loss of Wayne Staggs, a Dedicated Public Servant

Florence - Wayne Douglas Staggs, 70, passed away on January 21, 2025. Wayne, a devoted husband to Bonnie Jean for almost 53 years, was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He dedicated over three decades of his life to serving and protecting the people of Florence as a law enforcement officer. He continued his service at the Federal Courthouse in Covington after retiring from the Florence Police Department.

Wayne's commitment to his family, faith, and community was unwavering. Known for his humility, humor, and kindness, Wayne had a profound impact on all who knew him. His legacy of selflessness and dedication will be remembered by many.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jean, children Todd Marksberry, Beth Mericle, Shawn Staggs, and Damian Staggs, as well as 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his brother Greg Staggs, and sister Eileen Price.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Stith Funeral Home, with a service following on Monday, January 27 at Florence Baptist Temple. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery. Online condolences can be shared at www.stithfuneralhome.com.
