The Northern Kentucky region is preparing for its annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event, scheduled for November 2, 2024. The event will take place at Thomas More Stadium in Florence, Kentucky, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Residents of Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties are invited to safely dispose of various hazardous items free of charge. Accepted materials include aerosol cans, antifreeze, all types of batteries, corrosives and flammables, electronics (items that can be plugged in or require a battery), ink and toner cartridges, light bulbs, oil and car fluids, oil-based paint (limited to ten containers), pesticides, tanks and cylinders, and televisions (up to two per vehicle).
Certain items will not be accepted during the event. These include appliances, ammunition, explosives, fertilizer, latex paint, medications, and radioactive items.
Participants must complete a registration form prior to attending the event. Forms are available for download online. Organizers caution attendees to expect significant wait times due to high turnout; last year nearly 3,000 vehicles participated.
The event is limited to residents only; businesses are not permitted to participate. For further inquiries about the collection day procedures or requirements specific to each county involved in the initiative—Boone County's Ken Points can be reached at 859-334-3151; Kenton County's Melissa Grandstaff at 859-392-1919; and Campbell County's Megan Clere at 859-547-1866.
