If downtown Covington appeared busier than usual last weekend, it was due to the BLINK outdoor light and art event. The four-day festival saw a significant increase in foot traffic, particularly on Saturday night, which more than doubled the highest recorded numbers from earlier in 2024.

The comparison of peak foot traffic during the event with other evenings throughout the year highlights this surge. The previous highs were noted during St. Patrick’s Day weekend in March and the Labor Day riverfront fireworks show in September.

It is important to note that these figures do not account for all individuals present downtown at any given time. The data only includes those with active cell phones who were moving around between 7 p.m. and midnight, excluding residents or employees working downtown.

Placer.ai software was used to estimate these visits by leveraging data from hundreds of partner mobile apps that collect information from mobile devices.
