The City of Florence Public Services Department is preparing for the 2024 Leaf Collection Program, which will take place from October 21 through December 19. Last year, the city collected over 44,500 cubic feet of leaves, all of which were used as compost or fertilizer.
Residents are reminded to rake leaves into a row behind the curb and not into the street. Leaves should be ready for collection by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled pick-up day as indicated in the schedule. Pictures demonstrating correct and incorrect leaf placement are included in the schedule.
Leaf collection will occur only on residential streets and not on state routes or commercial streets. It is important to keep debris such as tree branches, tomato plants, and landscape waste out of leaf piles. All collected leaves will be composted.
For those interested in receiving compost loads, they can call (859) 647-5416. Homeowners may also bag their leaves for pickup by Rumpke.
A sign will be placed at subdivision or street entrances at least one week before the scheduled pickup day. The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions or equipment availability.
For further information, residents can contact the Public Services Department at (859)647-5416.
