The City of Covington has provided assistance to over 130 low-income homeowners in the past decade through its Homeowner Repair Program. This initiative aims to address dangerous and unsafe conditions that could potentially displace vulnerable residents, including the elderly, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
The program, funded federally, offers grants up to $10,000 for repairs on owner-occupied, single-family homes within Covington. Eligible repairs cover a range of issues such as electrical problems, plumbing issues (including broken water heaters and leaking pipes), HVAC problems (including carbon monoxide leaks and malfunctioning AC units/furnaces), roofs (plus gutters and downspouts), and accessibility modifications like wheelchair ramps and handrails.
Homeowners are responsible for selecting their contractors for the necessary repairs. The City provides assistance by referring qualified contractors if needed. Payments are made directly by the City to the contractor or repair person involved in the project.
Applications for the program are processed through an online portal. City staff offer support throughout the application process. Prospective applicants should review program guidelines to ensure eligibility before applying. For further inquiries or assistance with applications, residents can contact Archie Ice at aice@covingtonky.gov or call (859) 292-2124.
