Labor Day Weekend events offer variety for Covington residents

COVINGTON, Ky. – Residents staying in town this Labor Day Weekend have a variety of local activities to look forward to, beyond the 48th annual Western & Southern/WEBN fireworks on Sunday evening.

One notable event is The Roost Latonia’s "She Gotta Lotta Junk In Her Trunk Sale," which started Thursday afternoon and runs throughout the weekend. The sale offers a 50 percent discount on the store's vintage items.

On Saturday, the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra will present POPS, Inc. at the Devou Park Bandshell. This performance will feature classic and novelty symphonic numbers popularized by Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fieldler in the mid-20th century. Attendees can expect to hear pieces like “The Pink Panther” theme and “Moon River.”

For those interested in arts and crafts, Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop will host a Creative Bookmark Making Class on Saturday. Local artist Emily Rose will guide participants through creating personalized bookmarks using various materials provided.

The weekend's main event is the 48th annual Western & Southern/WEBN Fireworks on Sunday night. Information regarding street closings, safety measures, and parking is available for those planning to watch from public areas such as Devou Park or along the river.

Additional events include live music performances at several venues: The Missy Werner Band at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub & Restaurant and The Bluebirds Duo at Smoke Justis tonight; Kenny Cowden at Smoke Justis and Angie Coyle Quartet at Juniper’s on Friday; Cincy Silent Disco: Hat & Wig Party at Madison Theater, Corey Tucker at Smoke Justis, and Ricky Nye Inc. at Juniper’s on Saturday; Glow-Phoria at The Rooftop at Madison Theater on Sunday.

Other activities include Thirsty Thursday Bingo and Feud games tonight at Frosthaus; Graeter’s Monthly Donut Pop-Up at Braxton Brewing Co., Pint Friday at Green Lantern Café, and Karaoke night at Frosthaus on Friday; Covington Farmers Market, MainStrasse Village Food and Culture Tour, and Party on the Patio at Braxton Brewing Co. on Saturday; Afro Caribbean Day Party at Second Story Bar on Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy these local events safely over the holiday weekend.
