Corey Deye, the newly appointed Fire Chief of Covington, Kentucky, expressed his pride in continuing a family tradition that spans over a century within the Covington Fire Department. Referring to a historic photograph from 1921 showing his great-grandfather, Henry Deye, driving a horse-drawn ladder wagon, Corey reflected on the significance of his family's longstanding ties to the department.

"It’s neat to me to carry on a family tradition at Covington’s Fire Department that dates back more than 100 years," said Deye, emphasizing the importance of honoring both his personal family legacy and the legacy of past firefighters who have contributed to the department's growth and success.

In a recent vote by the Covington Board of Commissioners, Deye was promoted to Fire Chief, succeeding Mark Pierce. Expressing his gratitude towards his predecessors and colleagues, Deye acknowledged the collective effort that has shaped the department's capacity and performance over the years.

“We wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for the people of the past,” Deye stated, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions of those who have laid the foundation for the current department.

With specific goals in mind to enhance the department's operations, Deye highlighted the importance of recruiting new talent and embracing modern technology to improve emergency response and health outcomes. He aims to inspire the younger generation to see firefighting as more than just a job but as a fulfilling career and a sense of community.

Deputy Chief Jimmy Adams, who was also promoted during the same Commission meeting, expressed his commitment to upholding the department's traditions and values while focusing on organizational growth and training new recruits.

“It’s a very traditional department we have here, there’s a lot of honor,” Adams shared with the Commission, emphasizing his dedication to training and developing the next generation of Covington firefighters.

City Manager Ken Smith expressed confidence in Deye's leadership, stating, “I look forward to seeing the department evolve under him while continuing to provide the exemplary service that Covington is known for.”

With a background that includes various roles within the Covington Fire Department since 2004, Deye's promotion to Fire Chief marks a new chapter in the department's history, rooted in a deep respect for tradition and a commitment to innovation and excellence.
