The recently released 2023 Impact Report from Covington's Economic Development Department showcases a thriving momentum that is propelling the city towards robust growth. Covington Business Attraction Manager Susan Smith, who oversaw the report's creation, emphasized the comprehensive efforts detailed within it. She stated, "Economic Development encompasses a lot of different things." Smith also highlighted the report's ability to capture the city's energy, stating, "I've heard people say they can ‘feel’ the energy in Covington."

The report, crafted by Covington-based design studio AGNT, outlines a year marked by positive trends, including the creation of 969 new and retained jobs, $55.9 million leveraged in private investments, and $76,116 in incentives for small businesses. Moreover, the report signifies significant progress in various sectors, such as education, income levels, and poverty rates.

One of the focal points of progress in 2023 was the Covington Central Riverfront development, described as a "once-in-a-generation opportunity." The report highlights the city's strategic efforts that led to advancements in the area, such as partnering with various organizations to attract developers, arrange site tours, and initiate infrastructure projects.

The City's commitment to workforce development was also underscored in the report. Collaborative initiatives aimed at providing opportunities for residents and businesses, such as the Covington Academy of Heritage Trades and partnerships with organizations like the Northern Kentucky Area Development District, were detailed as part of the city's efforts to enhance skills and wages for residents.

Covington's dedication to diversity and inclusion was recognized through achievements like a perfect score on the Municipal Equity Index and receiving the 2023 Special Merit Award for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion from the Kentucky Chapter of the American Planning Association.

The Economic Development Department's engagement with local businesses and community events, as well as its support for creative endeavors through grant programs, further underscored its impactful presence in Covington.
