COVINGTON, Ky. - With the approaching cold weather, there's plenty to do in Covington this weekend to keep spirits high and creativity flowing. From art classes to discussions on social issues, there's something for everyone.

First and foremost, Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday honoring the civil rights leader. In commemoration of this day, a low-key but poignant breakfast discussion titled "The White Washing of Black History" will take place at Church of Our Savior on Saturday. The event is open to the public and aims to promote a more equitable world.

For those looking for a creative outlet, there are several art-related activities happening in Covington. The Roost Latonia is hosting a Cardinal Watercolor Class led by artist Susanna Bard. Participants will learn to paint their own cardinal, a symbol often associated with good fortune and magic in the midst of winter. The class includes refreshments and craft drinks.

If painting a cardinal sparks your interest in art, The Roost Latonia is also offering a Barn Square Workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own 20x20 barn square, honoring loved ones with a beautiful piece of folk art. All necessary supplies, snacks, and a drink from The Roost's craft bar are included in the workshop fee.

For art enthusiasts who prefer to observe rather than create, Purple Paisley, Local Artisan Shop is hosting Live Art with Nathan Klare. Klare, a talented local artist, will showcase his skills with crayons, colored pencils, and markers as he brings to life his latest creation, a ruby-throated hummingbird. Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase Klare's amazing artwork.

In addition to these creative activities, there are also opportunities for relaxation and fun. Purrfect Day Cat Café is hosting the Cat's Pajamas & Hot Cocoa Pawty for All Ages on Sunday. Attendees can enjoy hot cocoa from the bar and cuddle up with adorable cats. There is also a similar party for adults on Saturday.

For those who enjoy live music, various venues in Covington will be hosting performances throughout the weekend. Molly Malone's Irish Pub & Restaurant will feature The Missy Werner Band on Thursday night, while Smoke Justis will have Sonny Moorman and Acoustic by Briz on Friday. Juniper's will showcase Jeanne Phillips, Evan Gidley Trio, and Queen City Krewe on different nights. Madison Live will host September Mourning on Friday and Louisville Loves Emo on Saturday.

With so many activities happening in Covington this weekend, there's no reason to let the cold weather keep you indoors. Whether you're looking to express your creativity, engage in meaningful discussions, or simply enjoy some live music, there's something for everyone to enjoy in The Cov.

Remember, Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a time to reflect on the teachings of Dr. King and work towards a more inclusive and equal society. As Dr. King once said, "The time is always right to do what is right."
