COVINGTON, Ky. – Covington’s newest police officer looks forward to a long career of service to the people of Covington.

Trevor Collins was sworn in by Mayor Joe Meyer this morning and received his badge from Assistant Police Chief Matt Winship in a ceremony at City Hall.

Prior to administering the oath of office, Meyer spoke to Collins about the significance of the Department’s relationship with the community.

“You’ll find that one of the secrets to the success of the Covington Police Department is the relationship between the police officers and the community,” said Meyer. “For most people in our city, the Police Department is the City government. People interact more with our police than they do any other department within the city. So, the nature of the relationship is really important to us.”

Collins, who worked as a Transportation Security Officer with the Transportation Security Administration and has a degree in Criminal Justice, will attend the Police Academy in Richmond and be on the street answering calls in Covington in about a year.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Collins, whose mother completed the Police Academy 20 years ago and worked for a period of time as an undercover officer in Hamilton, Ohio. “I’m looking forward to 20 to 30 years of service to the community. I plan to do this for a long time,” he said.

“It’s great to have him with us and see our numbers and manpower continue to grow,” Assistant Chief Matt Winship said. “He’ll be an excellent addition to the Department.”
