Patriots Run Rule Bulldogs To Get The Win
15th ranked Patriots took down Union for the second time this year. UC took the game in seven innings 11-1.
Tyler Shafer got the start and his first win of the season as he pitched 5.0 innings. He only allowed five hits, one run, and three strikeouts. Zach Carlsen and Caleb Plummer both made appearances.
At the plate, Charlie Muniz went 3-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Evan St Claire went 2-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Ben Snapp and Ryan Shaver both had good games going 2-3. Caden Petrey went 1-3 with his lone hit being a grand slam to end the game in the seventh.
The Bulldogs took the lead in their first at-bat with a solo home run. UC responded with four runs to take the lead. Charlie Muniz singled to left field with one out. Sujel Arias followed with a single to right center, while courtesy runner Kevin Perez advanced to third. Max Harper got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Then Evan St Claire hit a bases-clearing triple down the right field line for three RBIs. Next, Ryan Shavers got an RBI from a sacrifice fly for the 4-1 lead.
Later in the second inning, the Pats added one more run to extend their lead to 5-1. Ben Snapp led off with a single through the right side, then stole second a few pitches later. Two batters later, Almanzar singled to center field to put runners on the corners, and a sacrifice fly from Muniz scored a run.
After a scoreless third inning, UC tallied two runs in the fourth to make it a 7-1 game. Snapp led off with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly advanced Snapp to third then Almanzar got walked to put runners on the corners. Muniz followed with an RBI double to left center. Then Almanzar would come home to score on a sacrifice fly from Arias for the 7-1 lead.
UC added four more runs in the seventh inning to get the run rule. With one out St Claire singled to center field. Next, Shavers singled to left field, and Snapp got walked to load the bases. After a pitcher change, Petrey ended the game with a grand slam to left field to end the game 11-1.
Cumberlands advances to 13-2 on the year and will host Campbellsville this weekend for their second MSC series of the year.
