Heartbreak in Cleveland, Women's Basketball Falls to Vikings

The Northern Kentucky women's basketball program found themselves in an intense battle with Horizon League leading Cleveland State for the second time this season, with the Vikings taking down the Norse within the final seconds by a score of 57-56.

FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 56, Milwaukee – 57

LOCATION: Henry J. Goodman Arena – Cleveland, OH

RECORDS: Northern Kentucky, 15-11 (9-8 Horizon) – Cleveland State, 25-3 (15-2 Horizon)

•   Lindsey Duvall: 27 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals

•    Tayah Irvin: 10 rebounds, 9 blocks, 2 points

•    Khamari Mitchell-Steen: 11 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block

•   Kailee Davis: 8 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds

•    Duvall found herself with yet another 20-plus point performance as she finished the game tonight with 27 overall against the Vikings. This was her ninth 20-plus point game of the year as well. 

•    Irvin posted an incredible defensive game, totaling 10 rebounds and nine blocks against CSU. Her nine blocks were a career-high for the senior and a season-high for the entire Horizon League within a single game. Irvin's 10 boards were also a career-high to cap off an impressive outing in just 18 minutes of action. 

•    Mitchell-Steen netted 11 points on the evening, shooting 4-for-6 from the floor. This was Khamari's seventh double-digit scoring outing this season. 

•    Despite tonight's heartbreaking road loss to the conference leading Vikings, this was the first time since 2019 the Norse have split the season series with Cleveland State. 

•    Northern Kentucky remains in fifth overall in the Horizon League with a conference record of 9-8. NKU trails the Jaguars of IUPUI in fourth place at 10-7, and leads the Mastodons of Purdue Fort Wayne in sixth at 8-9 overall.
