 Patriots Women's Bowling Places 12th at ISBPA Collegiate Classic

The Patriots women's bowling team had an impressive start to the 2023 portion of their schedule as they placed 12th at the Kegel ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic Sunday afternoon. UC totaled 8262 pins over the two day tournament, which included five team games and 20 baker games. 

The Patriots averaged 950.4 pins over the five team games as UC knocked 1,020 in the third game on Saturday to surge up the leaderboard.Cumberlands was third in their squad and sitting sixth overall heading into day two.  UC knocked down 3,510 pins over the 20 baker-style games on Sunday to earn their seventh consecutive top-15 team finish of the season. With an average of 175.5 pins per baker game, the Patriots finished the weekend four pins ahead of MSC rival UT-Southern. Kiara Abanto, Allysen Coryell, Kaitlyn Egan, Paige Frantz, Haleigh Lawwell, Emma Layman, and Erika Taylor took the lanes for UC this weekend.

After a slow start of 149 pins in the first game, Taylor hit 880 pins over the next four games as she led the way for the Pats. The Centerville, OH native totaled 1,029 pins to place 15th in the individual standings, which was her third top-15 finish of the season. The senior claimed the highest score in the tournament with a 257 in game three. 

Abanto continued her strong run as claims her fourth top-30 finish for the Patriots as she totaled 956 pins over five games on Saturday. The Rock Hill, SC native used a 221 in game three to surge up the leaderboard to finish 28th with an average of 197.2 pins per game. It marks Abanto second highest average at a tournament this season.  

Coryell notched 967 pins after the five team games on Saturday, averaging 193.4 pins per game.  The senior saved her best game for last as she totaled a 230 in the final game.

Lawwell finished with 901 pins, while Paige Frantz and Kailey Sipes split their time at fifth position in the UC's lineup during the individual portion. The duo ended the day at 207th and 390th, respectively, as Sipes knocked down 743 pins, while Frantz hit 126. 

UC will be back to work on Saturday, January 21st as they travel to Louisville for the Mid-South Conference Lynne Jordan Memorial tournament.
