Independence, Kentucky – Steven “Steve” Lilley, aged 46, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 30, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family. Born on October 25, 1978, Steve’s life was a tapestry of love, humor, and profound devotion to his passions and loved ones. As a cherished husband, father, veteran, and friend, his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A fervent admirer of Star Wars and a dedicated Lego aficionado, Steve’s home was adorned with an impressive collection of Star Wars Legos, a testament to his passion for both. Among his varied interests, his adoration for baseball shone brightly, especially his unwavering support for the Cincinnati Reds. He impressed many by proposing during a Reds game and was honored as the team’s “Hometown Hero,” a recognition he cherished despite being unable to witness in person this year.
Family time held a special place in Steve’s heart, whether it was memorable vacations or his beloved “Guys Trips” to golf courses. Known for his wit, intelligence, and irresistibly sharp humor, combined with a dash of dry sarcasm, Steve’s endearing qualities created lasting memories for all who were blessed to share in his company.
Having proudly served his country, Steve dedicated four years to the U.S. Navy and a further eight years to the U.S. Air Force, including deployments to Afghanistan. A man of unwavering integrity, Steve’s commitment to his family and nation defined his character. While achieving numerous accomplishments and traversing the globe, nothing brought him more pride than being a devoted father to his three sons.
Steve leaves behind his adored wife, Tara Lilley (née Coomer), and his sons Christian (20), Aiden (18), and Rowan (12). He is also survived by his mother, Margo (Lee) McCuistion, his mother, Cathy Lilley, and his siblings Rodd (Tracey) Lilley, Christa (Chris Hertzel) Plummer, Brent (Tiffany) Danner, and Brian (Amanda) Danner. He is mourned by his parents-in-law, William and Terri McDonald, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his father, Robert Lilley, and his niece, Avery Plummer, Steve’s indomitable spirit and enduring legacy will live on through the memories he created with those he touched.
Family and friends are invited to honor Steve’s life on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025, at Linnemann Funeral Homes in Erlanger, Kentucky. Visitation begins at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A graveside military honor tribute will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell following the service.
