Next week, residents of Covington, Kentucky, are advised to place their trash and recycling carts out the night before collection day. This adjustment is due to garbage trucks operating an hour earlier on particularly hot days.

The City of Covington has agreed to allow Rumpke Waste & Recycling to start residential and commercial collections at 6 a.m. instead of the usual 7 a.m. This change aims to protect workers from heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion during periods of high heat and humidity.

“On brutally hot days, the garbage trucks will be driving down Covington streets an hour earlier than usual,” a statement reads.
