Fort Thomas, KY – Robert Zane Gray, known as Bob, peacefully passed away at home in the late afternoon of July 21, 2025. Reunited with his beloved wife Jane after her passing in 2016 brought him joy. Bob leaves behind his daughter Kathy Bere, son Mike Gray, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was the youngest of four sons born to Ray and Garnett Gray in Fort Thomas. Bob served as a tail gunner in a B-29 Superfortress during the Korean War, but notably never flew in an aircraft again following his service.
Bob’s rich life included various vocations, from mason to store owner, candy maker, and golf course ranger. Alongside Jane’s parents, he managed Gray’s Delicatessen, known for its renowned peanut brittle recipe passed down through generations. His love for University of Kentucky basketball and passion for golf defined him. Bob’s competitive spirit shone through as he excelled in local amateur golf tournaments and club championships, alongside junior national events.
Alongside his dedication to St. Johns United Church of Christ, those wishing to offer memorials are encouraged to donate to the church. Services and burial will be held at the family’s convenience. The caregivers and staff at Barleycorn’s were a source of companion…
