Northern Kentucky University announced on May 20 that transfer guard B.J. Davis-Ray has signed with the Norse men’s basketball team for the spring 2026 class.
The addition of Davis-Ray is significant as he brings experience from a major program and could strengthen the team’s perimeter play. His background includes playing at Southern Methodist University, where he participated in 32 games during his freshman season.
“BJ brings us all the things we want in a perimeter player: skill, high basketball IQ, positional size, and versatility,” said Northern Kentucky head coach Darrin Horn. “In addition, he provides Power Four experience from an NCAA tournament team. During his recruitment, I was most impressed with his focus on development and being part of a winner. He will make an immediate impact on both ends for us.”
Davis-Ray played 225 minutes last season at SMU, averaging 1.3 points and 0.7 rebounds per game while shooting 35.6% from the floor and making nine three-point field goals out of twenty-three attempts. He saw a season-high of eighteen minutes in a loss to Duke and reached five points twice during the year as SMU finished with a record of twenty wins and fourteen losses overall.
Before college, Davis-Ray attended JSerra Catholic High School in California where he averaged seventeen point six points per game along with six point two rebounds and two point seven assists as a senior, earning CIF-SS Open Division First Team honors.
