Northern Kentucky University Norse softball secured a series victory over Robert Morris during a Saturday doubleheader, following a run-rule win on Friday, according to an April 11 announcement.
The outcome of the weekend’s games was significant for Northern Kentucky as they aimed to improve their record in the Horizon League. The team also honored five seniors—Peyton Mueller-Stenz, Victoria Flores, Alicia Flores, Brielle DiMemmo, and Jena Rhoads—before Saturday’s games.
In the first game of the doubleheader at Frank Ignatius Grein Field in Highland Heights, Robert Morris defeated Northern Kentucky 18-3. RMU built an early lead with home runs and added multiple runs in later innings, including an eleven-run seventh inning. NKU starting pitcher Makaree Chapman allowed seven runs over 6.1 innings with two strikeouts. Kyndall Ford pitched the remainder of the game. Offensively, NKU had seven hits; Morgan Heinecke hit her first career home run in the seventh inning.
The second game saw Northern Kentucky rebound for a 9-4 win over Robert Morris. NKU took control early with an eight-run advantage after three innings and maintained their lead throughout. Alicia Flores started as pitcher for NKU and threw 4.2 innings with four strikeouts while allowing only three runs and four batters to reach base before being relieved by Abigail Byrd who finished out the game without issuing any walks.
Brielle DiMemmo led offensively in game two by batting three-for-four with two triples, three runs scored, and two RBI. Lexy Morris contributed two hits including a double along with two RBI and one run scored; Peyton Mueller-Stenz and Brooke Keltner each recorded doubles as well.
