Northern Kentucky University Norse softball defeated Detroit Mercy 2-1 on Apr. 25, moving into second place in the Horizon League standings. Freshman pitcher Makaree Chapman pitched a complete game, allowing only one unearned run as the Norse secured the win.
The result is significant for Northern Kentucky, which improved its conference record to 8-7 and overall record to 20-23. The victory puts the team in a strong position heading into the final series of the regular season.
Chapman allowed three hits and one walk while striking out two batters during her outing, bringing her season record to 6-11. Offensively, Mack Brow led with three hits in four at-bats. Emma Ginn contributed both runs for Northern Kentucky, first with a sacrifice fly and then driving in the game-winning run with an RBI single. Ginn finished perfect at the plate with two hits from two appearances. Brooke Keltner also added to the offense by going two-for-three including a double and scoring once.
The Norse recorded ten hits but managed only two runs against Detroit Mercy’s pitching staff. The Titans fell to a conference record of 6-9 and an overall mark of 14-28 after this contest.
