Northern Kentucky University Norse women’s tennis lost to Youngstown State in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League Women’s Tennis Championship on April 24 at Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The Norse were defeated 4-0 by the Penguins, ending their run in the tournament.
The match began with doubles play, where Northern Kentucky dropped the doubles point. Sydney Zakic and Alyssa Cameron fell 6-2 in first doubles, while Aaditi Bhat and Catharina Cardoso lost 6-1 as the third pair.
In singles competition, Sydney Zakic was defeated by Hanna Telzynska 6-1, 6-2 at first singles. Alyssa Cameron lost to Yesenyia Ovcharova 6-1, 6-0 at third singles. Haley Slay was beaten by Line Greyling 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles as Youngstown State clinched its spot in the semifinals. Cassia Adamowsky was able to win a set for Northern Kentucky with a score of 7-5 over her opponent Yoana Dudova before their match went unfinished.
Other matches included Lorena Cedeno facing Darya Gneidina (unfinished), and Sarah Partida against Aaditi Bhat (unfinished) after one set. In doubles action not completed before Youngstown State secured victory, Darya Gneidina and Haley Slay led their match but did not finish.
This result marks an early exit for Northern Kentucky from this year’s Horizon League Women’s Tennis Championship.
