Northern Kentucky University Norse track and field teams were ranked fifth for men and sixth for women in the Horizon League’s preseason polls, according to a March 11 announcement from the league.
The rankings come after both teams concluded their indoor season with four individual Horizon League Championships. The men’s team finished last year’s outdoor championship in fifth place, while the women’s team placed sixth.
The men’s preseason poll placed Youngstown State at the top with seven first-place votes and 63 points, followed by Milwaukee, Purdue Fort Wayne, Oakland, and Northern Kentucky rounding out the top five. Wright State, Detroit Mercy, and IU Indianapolis completed the list.
On the women’s side, Youngstown State also led with nine first-place votes and 99 points. Milwaukee was second, followed by Purdue Fort Wayne, RMU, Oakland, and Northern Kentucky in sixth. Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State, Wright State, and IU Indianapolis filled out the remaining spots.
Both teams are preparing for the upcoming outdoor season as they look to build on their recent successes.
