Northern Kentucky University’s men’s volleyball team faced another setback in conference play on Saturday, falling to #10 Lindenwood in straight sets at Regents Hall. The Norse, who recently celebrated their first set win in MIVA competition against #13 McKendree, were unable to secure their first conference victory.
Lindenwood, currently leading the conference standings, won by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 26-24. Northern Kentucky struggled offensively and defensively throughout the match. The Lions out-hit the Norse .434 to .190 overall and recorded a .647 hitting percentage in the opening set. Although NKU improved to a .400 hitting mark in the third set and reached set point, they could not convert and ultimately lost the final frame.
Statistically, Lindenwood led all major categories with 46 kills compared to NKU’s 25, six service aces to one, and 20 digs over NKU’s 15. JD Diaz led Northern Kentucky with eight kills and two blocks for a total of 9.5 points while adding two digs. Will McElveen contributed five kills and matched Nick Whitley with a team-high 12 assists; Matt Cosgrove also had five kills with a .364 hitting percentage.
The Norse now hold a record of 3-12 overall and are winless (0-8) in MIVA play this season. They will continue their homestand on March 19 when they host Lewis University.
