Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball lost to Milwaukee in the opening round of the Horizon League Championship on May 21. The game took place at Nischwitz Stadium in Fairborn, Ohio, with Northern Kentucky falling by a score of 14-2.
The loss puts Northern Kentucky’s record at 25-29 for the season while Milwaukee improves to 23-31. The Norse initially took a lead with an RBI single from Ethan Thomas in the first inning, but Milwaukee responded quickly and then broke open the game with nine runs in the fifth inning.
EJ Miramontes started on the mound for Northern Kentucky, pitching four innings and allowing five earned runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Relievers Elijah Green and Gannon Wentz each gave up four runs during their appearances, while Gerald Hanson and Will Franklin finished out the game allowing just one run between them. Offensively, Ethan Thomas led Northern Kentucky by going three-for-four at bat and batting in one run. The team finished seven-for-thirty-four overall without recording any extra-base hits.
Northern Kentucky will continue its play in the Horizon League Championship later Thursday night against either Wright State or Oakland at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
The outcome leaves Northern Kentucky looking to rebound as they face elimination in their next tournament matchup.
