Northern Kentucky University Norse baseball lost to UNC Greensboro on April 11 in the second game of a three-game series, with a final score of 17-6 at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex in Highland Heights, Kentucky.
The loss came after Northern Kentucky won the series opener on Friday. The defeat puts NKU’s record at 14-19 while UNC Greensboro improves to 15-20. The outcome matters as it evens up the weekend matchup and sets up a deciding third game for the series.
Pierce Bauerle gave Northern Kentucky an early lead with an RBI double in the first inning, but UNC Greensboro responded by scoring fourteen straight runs between the second and fourth innings. Despite a two-out rally by NKU that produced five runs in the fifth inning, they were unable to overcome UNCG’s offense and ultimately fell short.
Logan Wilson started for NKU and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing seven earned runs and taking his third loss of the season. Relievers Gerald Hanson and MJ Castaneda also allowed multiple runs before Will Franklin closed out with 1.2 scoreless innings. Offensively, four Norse players had multi-hit games as NKU went 11-for-29 at bat, drew six walks, but stranded eight runners on base compared to four left by UNCG.
Bauerle finished with two hits including a double, one run scored and one RBI. Marcus Harrison and Ethan Thomas each contributed by going two-for-three with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.
NKU will conclude its three-game set against UNC Greensboro on Sunday at noon.
